NJ Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto has introduced a bill (A-3883) on November 13, 2014 to permit video cameras and audio recorders in residents’ rooms to help prevent abuse and neglect by nursing home staff members.  The bill provides for visible or hidden devices.  The bill has a lot of requirements as to notification to the nursing home, roomate consent, posting of notices etc.. The bill would amend the Nursing Home Bill of Rights.

Only  5 states allow for these devices.  There is strong opposition by the nurisng home owners and unions.
